First Baptist Church Forney, an 80,000-square-foot, two-story, 2,500 seat space, needed audio-a solutions to support their multi-use worship center, complete with indoor sports courts, an elevated track, and a community gathering space.
So, we intentionally designed a concert-level performance space that could adjust with moving walls and expanding risers. FBC Forney needed a space that catered to the small intricacies of intimate meetings while matching the larger needs of ministry and community events—7 days a week.
A project like this requires unparalleled critical thinking skills.
We had to craft our plan, design, and execution with the utmost level of intention in order to meet the client’s goals while maintaining a quality level of audio-visual excellence. Using this approach, we designed a space with two operable dividers that separate the main worship space from two large gym spaces. With the doors closed, each space is able to operate independently with pull-out bleachers and chairs that seat up to 700 people.
The obvious challenge here was the difference in acoustics from one room to the next. We addressed the sound shifts between rooms with built-in wall cavities that absorb low frequencies, keeping the sound clean and balanced. The centerpiece of spaces like these, however, is control. The more control you have over the audio, the better. We achieved that through a custom base speaker array pattern that shapes itself to the space when the doors are open and closed.
To tie it all together, we designed custom acoustic clouds that help balance the space acoustically—and elevate it visually.
Lighting was designed with versatility in mind: bold enough for performance, yet flexible enough for everyday use. We also integrated a motorized LED center wall capable of moving on and offstage for a dynamic, high-impact visual experience.
